Code 5 // The Sea Is Closer Than You Think - II (Bag Design)

Community engagement project (part of the Code 5 Artist Residency) aimed to raise awareness on Climate Change issues among the residents of the Thornton Estate.

A canvas bag was produced. On one side a text invited people to recycle more and respect the environment, pointing out the risk of sea level rise and flooding. On the other side an empty frame was left for children (and adults) to fill with drawings.

Working with all the classes of Adelaide Primary school we talked about why plastic bags are bad and then we started drawing things we cared about.

All of the 300 children from Adelaide Primary school designed one bag.

The bags were then distribuited through local shops, reducing the amount of plastic bags used and spreading the message across the whole estate.
